Cincinnati, Ohio – On Saturday, February 18
th, your Mount St. Joseph University Track & Field Team hosted a variety of teams at the MSJ College Indoor Invitational. The Lions landed 31 individual performances in the top 6, 9 of which were in the top 3. Within those 31 performances, 15 were personal bests.
Looking at distance and mid-distance events first,
Alex Schmidt got things started for the Lions with a personal best performance in the 5000-meter run. Schmidt ran a 17:29.74 landing him in 5
th place overall. In the 800-meter run,
Jacob Miller scored a 2
nd place finish with a time of 2:05.44. In the ladies 800,
Julia Gooding ran an impressive personal best time of 2:33.20 securing a 6
th place finish. Finishing off with the mile,
Kayla Hess ran a 5:47.09 landing her a personal best time and racking up another top 6 performance for the team finishing in 5
th place.
Moving to sprint events, the Lions put up impressive performances across the board securing 15 top 6 spots. First up, in the 60-meter hurdles,
Bella Calhoun ran 10.95 seconds getting her a 5
th place spot in the event. Following shortly after, the men's team secured 3 of the top 6 spots in the 60-meter dash.
Jalen Range got 2
ndplace with a 7.15 second run, and
Diego Yun finished in 3
rd place with a 7.18 second run. In 6
th place,
Kyle Evers Smith finished his 60-meter dash in 7.29 seconds. The women's team also landed 3 athletes in the top 6 in the 60-meter dash.
Sydney Bell secured an impressive 2
nd place finish with a personal best time of 8.42 seconds.
Olivia Forte and
Makiya Sherman secured 4
th and 6
th place with times of 8.57 and 8.92 seconds. In the 400,
Zach McKenna scored a 6
th place finish with a time of 56.45 seconds, and
Grace Holtmeier finished in 5
th place on the women's side with a time of 1:10.04. Moving on to the 200-meter dash, the Lions secured 6 top 6 places across the board.
Diego Yun kicked things off with a personal best time of 23.26 seconds landing him in 1
st place overall. Following closely behind,
Kyle Evers Smith got 3
rd place with a personal best time of 23.46,
Mikhail Walker placed 5
th with a time of 23.61, and
Zach McKenna placed 6
th with a personal best time of 23.94. In the women's 200-meter dash,
Olivia Forte and
Sydney Bell placed 5
th and 6
th both earning personal best times of 28.69 and 28.89.
Last but not least, the Lions had excellent performances in the field events, as well. Kicking off the field events,
DeAndre Cowen racked up a 2
nd place finish in the high jump with a personal best performance of 1.85M.
Dylan Hammons also had a 2
nd place finish but in the pole vault with a height of 2.90M. Looking at long jump,
DeAndre Cowen and
Dylan Hammons also placed.
DeAndre Cowen had an impressive personal best performance of 5.91M that landed him in 3
rd place, and
Dylan Hammons placed 5
th with a mark of 5.69M. On the women's side,
Londyn Frazier and Hannah Ford got back-to-back places of 5
th and 6
th with marks of 4.27M and 4.05M. Frazier also placed 5
th in the triple trump event with a distance of 8.99M. Lastly, for the men,
Jack Tucker had a personal best throw of 17.44M in the weight throw securing himself a 4
th place finish. On the women's side of the throwing events,
Madalyn Hudnall had a personal best throw in shot put at 11.90M which landed her a 5
th place finish.
Jill Wilhelm also had a personal best performance in shot put at 10.36M putting her in the 6
th place spot. Wilhelm also secured a top 6 spot at 5th place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 12.41M. Lastly,
Asia Branch had a great personal best performance of 12.57M that secured her a 4
th place finish.
UP NEXT: This coming weekend, the Lions will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana to compete in the HCAC Championship meet hosted by Rose-Hulman. The HCAC Championships will be held on Saturday, February 24
th at 1 PM.
