Terre Haute, IN – On Saturday, February 25
th, your Mount St. Joseph University Track & Field team traveled to Rose-Hulman to compete in the HCAC Indoor Championship meet. The Lions landed 22 performances, both individual and relays, in the Top 8.
Starting with the women's team, the Lions had 8 individuals and 3 relay teams place in the Top 8. To get things started,
Sydney Bell had a stellar personal best performance in the 60-meter dash. Bell's time of 8.37 seconds secured her a 7
th place finish in the conference meet. Next up,
Julia Gooding and
Anna Packer had 7
th and 8
thplace finishes in the 400-meter dash with close times of 1:06.42 and 1:06.99. Finishing out the women's individual races,
Bella Calhoun also had a personal best time in her event which secured her an 8
th place finish. Calhoun ran the 60-meter hurdles in 10.58 seconds.
In the relays, your Lions placed 3 events in the Top 8.
Bella Calhoun,
Sydney Bell,
Makiya Sherman, and
Olivia Forte ran an excellent 4x200-meter relay in 1:54.61 that finished in 2
nd place which was the highest finish of the day. In the 4x400-meter relay, the team finished in 6
th place consisting of
Grace Holtmeier,
Julia Gooding,
Bella Calhoun, and
Anna Packer. The ladies had a time of 4:33.16. And lastly, the women's distance medley, consisting of
Julia Gooding,
Grace Holtmeier,
Anna Packer, and
Kayla Hess, ran an impressive 13:48.52 which secured them a 4
th place finish on the day.
Moving right along to our ladies' field events, the Lions had several athletes place in the Top 8. In the triple jump,
Londyn Frazier secured an 8
th place finish with a mark of 8.69M. In the throwing events,
Asia Branch got 7
th place in shot put with her farthest throw being 10.59M.
Madalyn Hudnall had an awesome day placing in the Top 8 in both of her throwing events and securing a personal best throw in the weight throw event. Hudnall placed 3
rd in shot put and 8
th in the weight throw with throws of 11.87M and 12.59M.
Switching over to the men's team, the Lion's had some more impressive showings.
Jalen Range ran the 60-meter dash in 7.16 seconds which secured him a 7
th place conference finish.
Diego Yun also had an outstanding conference showing securing 2 individual Top 8 performances and a personal best time in the 200-meter dash. Yun got 5
th in the 200-meter dash with a 23.19 second time. Yun also placed 6
th in the 60-meter hurdles with an impressive 8.73 second showing.
Saien Wright also had a Top 8 performance in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.82 seconds that secured him a 7
th place finish.
In the men's relays, the Lions were able to find the Top 8 in another 3 events. The 4x200-meter relay placed 3
rdwith a time of 1:33.17 and consisted of
Mikhail Walker,
Jalen Range,
Kyle Evers Smith, and
Diego Yun. Next up,
Jacob Miller,
Zach McKenna,
Alex Schmidt, and
Diego Yun ran a time of 3:39.24 in the 4x400-meter relay which landed a 7
th place finish. And in the distance medley relay, the men, consisting of
Jacob Miller,
Zach McKenna, Mitch Reveal, and
Alex Schmidt, racked up an 8
th place finish with a combined time of 11:58.25.
In the men's field events, the Lion's racked up another 4 Top 8 performances in several different events. First,
DeAndre Cowen placed 5
th in the high jump with an impressive 1.80M jump.
Dylan Hammons also secured an 8
th place finish in the pole vault at 2.95M. And in the weight throw events,
Jack Tucker secured 6
th place with a throw of 15.23M, and
Alex Smith had a personal best throw of 13.29M gaining him an 8
th place conference finish.
