Alex Schmidt Breaks MSJ Steeple Record at Pioneer Invite

Lexington, Kentucky – On Saturday, March 23rd, your Mount St. Joseph University Track & Field team traveled to Transylvania University for their first outdoor meet of the season. The Lions had 10 athletes score points at the Pioneer Invite along with 7 personal best performances across the board, as well. 
 
Kicking things off on the women's side, the field events had a stellar showing on Saturday. Madalyn Hudnall had an impressive day placing in the top 8 in three events including javelin, hammer throw, and shot put. Hudnall placed 2nd in javelin with a mark of 33.66 M and 5th in shot put with a throw of 10.45 M. Hudnall also placed 5th in the hammer throw with a personal best throw of 39.97 M. Jill Wilhelm also showed out grabbing a 1st place finish in javelin with a mark of 34.69 M. Rounding out the ladies events, Asia Branch secured a 6thplace finish in shot put with a throw of 10.42 M on the day. 
 
The Lions continued to show success in the men's events breaking a school record in the steeplechase. Alex Schmidt had a record-breaking performance in the 3000-meter steeple with a final time of 10:31.99. Following that up, Diego Yun snagged a 1st place finish in the 200-meter dash with an impressive personal best time of 22.62 seconds. Andre Wright also had a great personal best performance in the 200-meter dash with a final time of 24.98 seconds. And finishing out the running events, Zach McKenna had a personal best time of 54.84 in the 400-meter run. 
 
Looking at our men's field events, Dylan Hammons kicked things off with a 3rd place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 12.16 M. In the javelin event, Dylan Sebastian finished in 6th place and had a throw of 41.52 M on the day. And last but least, the Lions had another great showing in the hammer throw with a 2nd place finish and two personal best throws. Jack Tucker finished in 2nd place with a personal best throw of 45.43 M, and Austin Womack had a personal record of 33.76M. 
 
UP NEXT: This coming weekend, the Lions will travel to Hanover, Indiana to compete in the Hanover Invitational on March 30th. The meet will get started at 11:00 AM, and you can keep up to date with results at msjlions.com.
