Highland Heights, Kentucky – On Saturday, April 13
th, the Mount St. Joseph University Track & Field Team traveled to Northern Kentucky University to participate in the Northern Kentucky University Invitational. Out of 8 teams competing in the meet, the men's team finished 1
st overall, and the women's team placed 6
th. Along with this, Mount St. Joseph University was the only Division 3 institution competing in the invitational over the weekend.
Starting with the 1
st place men's team, the field events carried the way for the Lions. In the throwing events,
Camden King and
Matt Obert finished 5
th and 6
th overall with distances of 10.76M and 10.48M.
Matt Obert also had a personal best performance with his 10.48M throw. Moving along to discus,
Camden King also placed 5
th overall in this event with a personal best throw of 30.41M.
Kaleb Fitzgerald and Aiden Riffle also placed 7
th and 8
th in discus with final marks of 27.98M and 22.11M. In the javelin throw, the Lions had 4 top 8 performances from
Dylan Sebastian,
Jack Tucker,
Matt Obert, and
Jasper Damewood.
Dylan Sebastian finished 3
rd with a mark of 40.96M,
Jack Tucker finished 4
th with a throw of 39.11M,
Matt Obert placed 6
th with a distance of 34.20M, and
Jasper Damewood placed 7
th with a mark of 32.71M. In the jumping events,
Dylan Hammons placed in both the long jump and triple jump. Hammons placed 3
rd in the long jump with a jump of 5.54M and 2
nd in triple jump with a mark of 11.36M.
DeAndre Cowen also placed 5
th in high jump with a final mark of 1.70M.
In the men's running events, the Lions had 3 top 8 performaces in the 100-meter dash.
Kyle Evers Smith finished in 3
rdplace with a final time of 11.01 seconds.
Diego Yun followed shortly after in 4
th place with a personal best performance of 11.24 seconds.
Jalen Range finished out the impressive Lions' performances with a 6
th place finish in the 100 with a time of 11.34 seconds.
Alex Schmidt also capitalized on his 3000-steeplechase record at MSJ with a 1
st place finish and a personal best time of 10:17.38.
Diego Yun also placed 1
st in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 22.51 seconds, and
Kyle Evers Smith placed 6
th with a time of 23.05 seconds.
Looking at the women's field events,
Asia Branch had an impressive showing with 2
nd and 3
rd place finishes in the shotput and discus events. Branch had marks of 10.69M in shotput and 33.13M in discus.
Jill Wilhelm also had great performances finishing 4
th and 2
nd in discus and javelin. Wilhelm's final distances were 33.03M in discus and 37.56M in the javelin throw. Sticking with the javelin throw,
Madalyn Hudnall finished in 1
st place with a personal best performance of 38.63M.
Sienna Slaughter also competed in both discus and javelin finishing in 8
th in both events with final marks of 27.56M and 23.75M. Looking at the jumping events,
Grace Kruthaupt place 8
th in the high jump with a height of 1.40M.
And last but not least,
Grace Kruthaupt was the only women's individual top 8 performance with a personal best performance in the 100 hurdles. Kruthaupt finished in 4
th place overall with a time of 16.41 seconds.
