North Manchester, Indiana – On April 26
th and 27
th, the Mount St. Joseph University Track & Field team traveled to Manchester University to compete in the HCAC Outdoor Championships. The men's team ended up in 8
th place, and the women's team placed 5
th overall. In order to gain these points, the Lions landed 21 performances in the Top 8.
Starting with women's field events,
Madalyn Hudnall had the most individual events landed in the Top 8 which was shot put, discus, and javelin throw. Hudnall placed 3
rd in the javelin throw with a mark of 37.15 M, 4
th in shot put at 11.31 M, and 8
th in discus with a farthest throw of 30.40 M.
Jill Wilhelm also had multiple Top 8 performances in discus and triple jump. Wilhelm placed 4
th in the javelin throw with a final throw of 36.08 M and a 6
th place throw of 34.53 M in discus.
Sienna Slaughter also placed 5
th in the hammer throw with a personal best performance of 39.40 M. And last but not least,
Londyn Frazier secured an 8
th place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 8.67 M.
In the men's field events,
DeAndre Cowen placed 6
th in high jump with his highest jump on the weekend being 1.76 M.
Dylan Hammons also jumped 2.95 M in pole vault placing 8
th overall.
Looking at running events,
Grace Kruthaupt had a great weekend with multiple personal best performances in her sprint events. In the 100-meter dash, Kruthaupt placed 4
th with a personal best time of 13.03 seconds. Kruthaupt also placed 3
rd in the 100-meter hurdles with a best time of 15.91 seconds.
Julia Gooding was another Top 8 finisher with a 6
th place finish in the 400-meter dash with a final time of 1:06.50. Lastly, for individual events,
Anna Packer also placed 6
th overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:34.08. For relays, the ladies 4x100-meter relay made up of
Grace Holtmeier,
Olivia Forter,
Makiya Sherman, and
Grace Kruthaupt placed 2
nd overall which was the highest placing event for the Lions. The Lion's 4x400-meter relay placed 3
rd with
Grace Holtmeier,
Julia Gooding,
Grace Kruthaupt, and
Anna Packer.
In the men's events,
Saien Wright placed 5
th and 7
th in the 110 and 400-meter hurdles. Wright ran 15.91 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 58.61 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles. Along with this,
Diego Yun and
Kyle Evers Smith placed 7
th and 8
th in the 200-meter dash both securing personal best times. Yun's final time was 22.34 seconds, and Evers Smith's time was 22.35 seconds. Looking at relays, the men's 4x100-meter relay placed 5
th with
Jalen Range,
Diego Yun,
Zach McKenna, and
Kyle Evers Smith. The men's 4x400-meter relay placed 7
th comprised of
Jacob Elza,
Zach McKenna,
Alex Schmidt, and
Jacob Miller.
