CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph Lions kicked off their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule on a high note, securing a confident 3-0 home win over the Anderson Ravens on Saturday. The Lions demonstrated impressive teamwork, poise, and a balanced attack that set the tone for their conference campaign.
MATCH ONE: MSJ 3 - RAVENS 0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-20)
From opening serve, the Lions showcased their determination and skill. Junior outside hitter Emma Sicking was the standout performer offensively, delivering 18 kills on 42 attempts and adding 13 digs. Her ability to transition from powerful attacks to crucial defensive plays made her a constant threat on both ends of the court. Senior Hannah Graves also played a pivotal role, notching 10 kills on 36 attempts and 22 digs, proving her value as both a scorer and defensive anchor.
The Lions' setting duo orchestrated the offense with precision. Freshman Ava Moore stepped up impressively, tallying 20 assists, while sophomore Ginger Johnson supported with 18 assists, effectively distributing the ball and keeping the Ravens' defense guessing. On defense, libero Lyndsey Stephenson was a rock in the back row, racking up 15 digs and ensuring the Lions maintained control of the ball in key moments.
MSJ's strong serve receive and transition game allowed them to build leads in the second and third sets, particularly in the middle set where they dominated 25-14. The combination of leadership and emerging talent created a balanced and confident squad ready to take on the rest of the conference.
UP NEXT: Mount St. Joseph travels to Greencastle, Indiana, for a key match up against DePauw University on Wednesday, October 8th. First serve is scheduled for 7 PM, and the Lions will look to build on their strong start with another commanding performance on the road.
