CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph baseball team welcomed Rose-Hulman to Midland Field for their Senior Day festivities. The Lions won game one of the double-header 17-15 and then followed that up by dropping game two 6-4.Â
After the double-header the Mount St. Joseph baseball team honored its 2025 senior class of
Anton Mere,
Ryan Caulfield, Nick Shields,
Tyler Herbers,
Brendan Hosler,
Evan Webb,
Kaiden Morris,
Andrew Harrison and
Jake Sanders.Â
GAME ONE | MSJ 17 - Rose-Hulman 15
The Lions got this high scoring game started with a three spot in the bottom of the first inning.
Anton Mere led the game off with an infield single, and moved to second on a
Jordan Harley single.
Andrew Harrison then squared to sacrifice bunt and Rose mishandled the play allowing Mere and Harley to score.
Jake Sanders then doubled to straight away center scoring Harrison.Â
In the top of the second inning, Rose-Hulman exploded for nine runs to put the Lions squarely on the ropes. They would answer immediately with six of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at nine. Harrison, Martin,
Sean Moore,
Jackson Gutzwiller and
Austin Buckle each delivered RBIs in the inning.Â
The Lions took the lead back with two in the bottom of the third with Martin deliviering an RBI double and Harrison scoring on a Mason groundout.Â
Rose answered to tie the score again with a two spot in the top of the fourth inning.Â
With both starters done, the bullpens then put up zeros in the fifth and sixth innings. Rose then hit a three run homer in the seventh to take the advantage in the late innings.Â
The Lions scored once in the bottom of the 8th to gut their deficit to two. Rose got a little insurance with one in the top of the ninth.
Trailing by three going into the ninth the Lions got to work. Buckle led off with a single and Mere was hit by a pitch. An out later Harrison singled into center to load the bases,
Jake Sanders got the Lions within one with a two run single up the middle. Martin then drilled a three-run walkoff homer to give the Lions the win.Â
GAME TWO | RHIT 6 - MSJ 4
Game two of the double header was more of a pitchers dual, the Lions sent senior
Ryan Caulfield to the mound to start the game as an opener. He allowed one baserunner in a scoreless first inning.
The Lions opened the scoring with a three spot in the bottom of the first inning. Mere led off the game with a single and Harley followed with a single. Harrison then beat out an infield single to load the bases with no outs. Sanders drove in the first run of the game reach on a fielders choice. The second run of the inning scored on a wild pitch and the final came on an
Ethan Mason sacrifice fly.Â
Zach deSylva came in to pitch in the second inning, he allowed a run in the second but settled in to keep Rose scoreless in the next four innings.Â
Rose would scrap for one in the top of the seventh to draw within one, but the Lions answered in the bottom of the inning to push their lead back to two.Â
Gutzwiller led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Buckle. He would come around to score on an RBI single from Mere.Â
Rose came all the way back to tie the score at four with a pair in the top of the 8th. And a two run homer in the ninth gave them the lead for good.Â
