LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Mount St. Joseph University women's golf team headed to the 2025 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship as the favorite to win the event. And for the first time in program history the Lions won the event and will appear in the 2025 NCAA Championships.
The tournament opened on Friday at Kearney Hills Golf Links in Lexington, the Lions had a solid first day in tough conditions firing in a team score of 321, giving them the lead by 8-strokes.Â
Saturday's second round was canceled due to weather concerns in Lexington. On Sunday, the Mount bested their score by three strokes and fired in a tournament low round of 318 to secure the win by 10 strokes over Rose-Hulman.
The Lions had a trio of players represented on the all-tournament team in the event. Led by the individual champion
Amy Smith, who finished with an 8-over par 154 for the two days.
Debra Brogan finished in a tie for third place with a two day total of 159 and Aly Haverstraw rounded out the top-5 with a 160.Â
Rounding out the Lions top-5 who played in the tournament were
Taylor Anderson who finished in a tie for 12th place with a 166 and
Emma Winland who finished 27th with a 188.
Coach Justin Tereshko was named the HCAC's Coach of the Year after guiding the Lions to their first HCAC title in just his first season leading the program.
The win will earn the Lions a spot in the NCAA Championships May 13-16 from Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia.Â
