Lions' volleyball team receives recognition in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll

After recording a 5-0 mark during the week, the College of Mount St. Joseph volleyball team has received national recognition in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll. The Mount was named in the "Others receiving votes and listed on two or more ballots" this week, picking up seven points. Washington (St. Louis) University maintained its spot at the top of the poll, while the Lions are the only HCAC team in the poll.

Lions' senior outside hitter Jamie Grauvogel (Cleves, OH/Harrison) has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week. She earned the award after propelling the Lions to a perfect 5-0 week, including a thrilling 3-2 upset over then-No. 18 Ohio Northern. The two-time AVCA All-American did it all for Mount St. Joseph, smashing 106 kills, while totaling 69 digs, 11 blocks and six aces during the week, registering a double-double in all five matches she played.  She was one kill shy of the 30-kill mark in the Lions’ five-set win over Bluffton and turned in a 19-kill, 22-dig, four-block performance against the nationally-ranked Polar Bears.

For the week, Grauvogel averaged 5.05 kills, 3.29 digs and 5.57 digs per set. This is Grauvogel’s second career Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week honor, the last com! ing on Nov. 4, 2008, and also marks the program’s fourth overall award. The Lions are coached by Jon Bennett.
