The College of Mount St. Joseph women's volleyball team season ended today in the Semifinals of the HCAC Tournament, played at Hanover College, as the Lions fell in a thrilling five-set match to Bluffton University. The Mount and Beavers split the first two sets by indentical 25-23 scores, and the Lions won set three, 25-21, to grab a 2-1 lead but could not put Bluffton away. The Beavers recorded the win by posting 25-19 and 15-10 scores in the final two sets. The Mount, which finishes the season at 12-19 overall, won a five-set match against the Beavers on Sept. 21 at home.
Kat Roedig (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) led the Lions against Bluffton with 20 kills while teammate Hannah Vanarsdall (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) chipped in 12 kills. Torrie Whitmore (Mason, OH/Mason) had 43 assists and 10 digs while Michelle Woods (Ft. Wright, KY/Newport Central Catholic) had 18 digs. Nicole Sherpensky (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) added three block assists. Sarah Scheid (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) added seven kills and 17 digs.
Bluffton out-hit the Mount, .254-.129 while the Beavers were aided by 17 Mount service errors.
Roedig was named to the HCAC All-Tournament team.
