The College of Mount St. Joseph led by an 8-0 score after three innings, and withstood a late Marian University comeback, to record a 12-8 home win. The Lions, 6-7 overall, return to action on Mar. 23 when they play in Chillicothe, OH against Wilmington College.
The Lions banged out a season-high 16 hits and led by a 10-0 score heading into the seventh inning. Ben Stroube (North Bend, OH/St. Xavier), who finished three hits, three runs scored and three RBI, had a two-run RBI single in the third inning while Craig Shanks (Erlanger, KY/St. Henry) had a two-run RBI in the fifth. Shannks had three hits, including a triple, and four RBI in the game. Josh Denny (Huntsville, AL/Flushing) and Jake Daugherty (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) also had three hits each.
Marian University scored seven runs in the seventh innings off two Mount relievers but were held scoreless the last two innings. Cody Kirker (Bethel, OH/Bethel-Tate) started for the Mount and pitched four innings, allowing six hits, a walk and an earned run, picking up his first win of the season. Drew Ernst (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) finished the game for the Mount by striking out two of three batters he faced in the ninth inning.
