In a battle between the top two teams in the MLC Coaches' Preseason Poll, visiting Adrian College came out on top today at Schueler Field downing the Lions, 15-10. The Mount, 0-3 on the season and 0-1 in the conference, is back in action on Mar. 9 when they host Centre College.
Adrian, the conference preseason number one pick, jumped out to a 2-0 lead today only to see the Lions tie the game at two-all in the first quarter. Adrian would then push their lead to a two-goal advantage, 4-2 in the opening quarter but the Lions' scored early on in the second quarter, on a goal by Cory Wojciechowski (Las Vegas, NV/Community College East) to cut the Adrian ;lead to 4-3. Adrian, however, would push that lead out to 7-3, thanks to three goals in less than 1 1/2 miniutes, and hold a 8-6 lead at the break.
The Lions would get no closer in the second and were outscored 7-4 in the final two quarters of action. Mike Murphy (Crestwood, KY/South Oldham) had two straight goals in the fourth quarter which pulled the Lions to within a 12-9 score.
Murphy, who scored three goals in the game helped lead the Mount offense along with Anderson Morgan (Mason, OH/Moeller), who tallied three goals and had an assist. Chris Uselmann (Carmel, IN/Westfield) added two goals and an assist. Colin McSharar (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) played the entire game in goal for the Lions, registering 12 saves, as he faced 47 shots, including 27 shots on goal.
