Lions' baseball team claims one-run home win over Hanover College

Jake Daugherty (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) singled in Trace Norton (Reading, OH/Reading) with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Mount a 5-3 lead, and the Lions held on today to defeat visiting Hanover College, 5-4. The Mount, 12-15 overall, 5-7 in the HCAC, will host Hanover in doubleheader action on Apr. 17.

Hanover cut the deficit to 5-4 in the eighth inning but ended the inning stranding two runners on base, and the potential tying run was left on third base to end the game when Chris Bruckman (Huber Heights, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) recorded a strikeout as he collected his second save of the season. Ben Hunterman (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) pitched 7 1/3 innings to record his third win of the season.

The Lions had 11 hits in the game but left 11 runners on base. John Pasquale (Cincinnati. OH/Colerain), Josh Denny (Huntsville, AL/Flushing) and Daugherty each had two hits in the game. Denny added two RBI while Drew Ernst (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) had an a pinch hit RBI double in the sixth inning.
