Mount baseball team completes HCAC three-game weekend series at Manchester College

The Lions dropped back to .500 in the HCAC this weekend after being swept in a three-game series at Manchester College. The Spartans upended the Mount, 17-8 in game one - which was completed before Saturday's scheduled doubleheader - then swept the visitors, 11-4 and 9-8. The Mount, 10-11 overall, 3-3 in the HCAC, will return to action on Apr. 5 when they host HCAC-rival Transylvania University.

Ben Stroube (North Bend, OH/St. Xavier) led the Lions' offense during the three-game series, hitting .571 (eight-for-14), with four runs scored, five RBI, a double, two home runs and a stolen base. Josh Denny (Huntsville, AL/Flushing) was six-for-12 with five RBI, three runs scored, two doubles and a stolen base. Justin Shelton (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) chipped in five hits in the three games while Jake Daugherty (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) added a home run. Drew Ernst (Cincinnati, OH/Elder), who started the first game of the doubleheader and pitched 4 2/3 innings, was tagged with the loss while relievers Chris Bruckman (Huber Heights, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) and Josh Schafer (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) suffered losses in relief in the other two games. The Lions committed 12 errors in the three-game series.
