THe College of Mount St. Joseph baseball team saw it's 2011 overall season record slip to 19-19Â today as they dropped the first game of a three-game series at Defiance College, 6-3. The Lions, 12-11 in the HCAC will complete 2011 regular season play on May 7 when they take on Defiance in a doubleheader.
The Mount and Defiance were tied one-all after three innings today, before the home team broke open the game in the fourth plating two runs to go up 3-1. The Lions tied the game at 3-all in the sixth, on an RBI groundout by Trace Norton (Reading, OH/Reading) but Defiance answered that with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning against Mount starter Ben Hunterman (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills), who fell to 5-5 on the season.
The Lions had six hits in the game, as Jake Daugherty (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) hit his second home run of the season and Ben Stroube (North Bend, OH/St. Xavier) recorded a double.
