The College of Mount St. Joseph scored early and often Tuesday night against Wilmington College as they went on to a 21-9 home win over the Quakers. The Mount evens its 2012 record at 6-6 on the season and will be back in action this weekened when they begin a three-game series against HCAC-foe Franklin College on Mar. 23 at the University of Cincinnati's Marge Schott Stadium.
Wilmington scored the first run of the game when they plated a run in the first inning, but their lead was short lived as the Lions batted around in the second inning and scored seven times. The Mount added five more runs in the third inning to jump out to a 12-1 advantage and add four more runs in the fourth inning to lead, 16-1. The Mount would score runs in six of the eight innings they batted, as they scored a season-high 21 runs in the game.
Jonathan Roberts (Hebron, KY/Conner), Kyle Ottaway (Fairfield, OH/Farifield) and Taylor Simpson (Monroe, OH/Monroe) each had three hits to lead the 20-hit attack. Josh Denny (Huntsville, AL/Flushing) and Ottaway collected three RBI each. Rob Shaw (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) and Denny scored four times each in the game.
Four Mount pitchers saw action in the game, with starter Jacob Hoying (Russia, OH/Russia) recording his second win of the season in three decisions. Hoying tossed five innings and allowed 10 hits, two runs (both earned), two walks and had three strikeouts. There were 21 combined walks in the game, with Wilmington pitchers issuing 13 walks.
