Anderson Morgan (Mason, OH/Moeller) scored the go-ahead goal with 3:42 to play today as the Mount went on to upend MLC-foe Carthage College, 11-9 at home. The Lions, 3-5 overall, 1-1 in the conference, is back in action on Mar. 31 with a conference game at Aurora University.
The Lions, who scored the game's first two goals, led 6-4 at the half, and were up 8-7 after three quarters of action. Carthage would knot the game at eight-all early in the fourth quarter, but a goal by the Mount's Chris Uselmann (Carmel, IN/Westfield) just a minute later would put the home squad up by an 9-8 advantage. Carthage would tie the game at nine-all with 11:26 on the fourth quarter clock and both teams played close the remainder of the game, as the Red Men continued to pepper the Mount goal with shots. Cody Nolan (Mason, OH/Mason) and the Lions' defense would hold strong in the final minutes of the game, setting the stage for Anderson's goal, his game-high fourth of the game. Patrick McClanahan (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira) would score with 51 seconds to play for the Mount to close the scoring.
Anderson also added three assists, for a game-high seven points scored, while teammate Mike Murphy (Crestwood, KY/South Oldham) added three goals and McClanahan had two goals. Ryan Gallagher (Chicago, IL/St. Rita) chipped in a goal and three assists. Nolan played all 60 minutes in goal and had 25 saves. Carthage out-shot the Mount, 58-30, including 34-18 in shots on goal.
