Lions' baseball team opens HCAC weekend series with a 20-7 home loss to Manchester College

Visiting HCAC rival Manchester College scored 10 first inning runs and rolled tonight to a 20-7 win against the College of Mount St. Joseph at the University of Cincinnati's Marge Schott Stadium. The Mount, 9-16 overall, 2-10 in the HCAC, is scheduled to take on the Spartans again in a doubleheader on Apr. 14.

Manchester roughed up Lions' starter Aaron Sparks (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) in the first inning, reaching him for three hits, four walks and two hit batters, as they scored in double-digits to start the game. The Lions out-hit the Spartans in the game, 15-11, but committed five errors. Jonathan Roberts (Hebron, KY/Conner) had three hits for the Mount, while teammate Justin Shelton (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) added two doubles and two RBI. Craig Shanks (Erlanger, KY/St. Henry) and Kyle Ottaway (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) had two hits each. The Lions used four pitchers in the game. The setback was the Mount's sxith straight, all in the HCAC.
