Mount men's lacrosse team registers hard-fought MLC home win over Albion College, 8-6

Box Score

The College of Mount St. Joseph out-scored rival MLC opponent Albion College, 3-0 today in the third quarter as they went on to an 8-6 home win. The Lions, 6-7 overall, improve to 4-2 in the MLC and are tied for third in the conference with Trine University. The Mount is scheduled to host another MLC game on Apr. 18 when they take on Fontbonne University.

The Lions scored the game's first goal today and found themselves locked in a low-scoring battle with the Britons, with the two teams tied at three-all at the half. The Lions scored three unanswered goals in the third quarter, however, part of a five-goal unanswered scoring streak. Mike Murphy (Crestwood, KY/South Oldham) scored his second goal of the game with 10:43 on the fourth quarter clock, to put the Mount up by an 8-4 score. Rain and lightning strikes halted play in the game with 6:26 remaining, and after a one hour and 13 minute delay, the two teams took to the field again. Albion scored with 3:00 and 2:30 to play, to cut the Mount lead to 8-6 but would get no closer.

Chris Uselmann (Carmel, IN/Westfield) led the Mount with three goals and two assists while Will McClanahan (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira) chipped in two goals and two assists. Cody Nolan (Mason, OH/Mason) made 12 saves in the win. The Lions out-shot Albion, 38-33, including 21-18 in shots on goal.
