Mount baseball team suffers home doubleheader setback to Manchester College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Visiting Manchester College completed a three-game series sweep against the Lions today, winning a doubleheader 12-3 and 13-4. The Mount, 9-18 overall, and 2-12 in the HCAC, will be back in action on APr. 17 when they host a conference game against Earlham College.

In game one today against the Spartans, Manchester bolted out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning off Mount starter Brandon Polking (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier)). The Spartans added just two other scoring innings in the game, both with four run frames, as they collected 12 hits and had four walks in the game. Polking suffered the loss, dropping to 2-4 on the season. The Lions scored once in the fourth inning and twice in the sixth inning in the seven inning game. Justin Shelton (Cincinnati, OH/Anderson) had two hits for the Mount, while teammate Craig Shanks (Erlanger, KY/St. Henry) and Jonathan Roberts (Hebron, KY/Conner) added doubles. Manchester had two home runs in the game.

Manchester posted its 17th win of the season in game two, thanks in part to another solid offensive display against the Lions. The Spartans scored early and often in the nightcap, leading by an 11-1 margin after three innings. Mount starter Collin Shaw (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) pitched 2 2/3 innings and suffered the loss, falling to 1-3 on the season. Chris Bruckman (Huber Heights, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) tossed 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing four hits. Four Mount pitchers allowed 17 hits and four walks in the game. Kyle Ottaway (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) had two of the Mount's 10 hits, including a double. Kyle Vennemeier (Harrison, OH/Harrison) also collectged two hits. The Lions committed five errors in the game.
