Host Carthage College, the second place team in the MWLC, scored the game's first 10 goals today en route to an 18-7 win over the Lions. The Mount finishes the regular season at 5-9 overall, 3-4 in the conference, and qualifies to the May 4-5 MWLC Tournament as the fourth seed. They will open play in the MWLC Tourmament semifinals on May 4 at top seed Adrian College.
Carthage College out-shot the Mount, 38-16 in the game today, and got goals from 10 different players as they coasted to their 12th win of the season in 16 games. Amanda Holmes (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) led the Mount with three goals, while teammate Nicole Sifri (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) chipped in two goals. Paige Apel (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) had 12 saves.
Carthage College, the second seed in the MWLC Tournament, will take on #3 seed North Central College at Adrian College on May 4 in the other tournament semifinal game. The winners from the semifinals will play on May 5 at Adrian College for the championship. This is the first time the Lions have qualifed to the conference tournament. They are in their second season of MWLC play.
The Lions have been led offensively this season by Holmes, who has a team-high 36 goals and is second with 38 points scored. Chrissy O'Hara (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) leads the Mount in points (41) and assists (18) and is third in goals scored (23). Heather Scholle (Cincinnati, OH/Lakota West) has chipped in 27 goals and four assists. Apel has started all 13 games the team has played this season, and has registered a 15.35 GAA and 140 saves.
