Lions' women's lacrosse team wins season opener, 11-10 in 4 OTs against Calvin College

Mount junior Chrissy O'Hara (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) scored six goals, including the game-winner in the fourth overtime period, as the Lions recorded a season-opening 11-10 win at home over Calvin College. The Mount is slated to host Notre Dame College on March 11.

Calvin College got on the scoreboard first in the game, only to see the Lions knot the game just under two minutes later and take a 2-1 lead 7:11 into the game. The Knights would knot the score at two-all with 15:52 on the first half clock, but Mount freshmen Kaci Overly (Morrow, OH/Little Miami) and Erica Walsh (Louisville, KY/Sacred Heart) scored their first collegiate goals, putting the Lions up 4-2. The Mount rolled into the half with a 6-4 lead, despite being out-shot, 14-9.

Calvin took control of the game early on in the second half, scoring three unanswered goals, grabbing a 7-6 advantage, while O'Hara tied the game at seven-all with 14:57 on the second half clock. Calvin scored the next two goals in the game, jumping out to a 9-7 lead, while the Mount would record two unanswered goals late in the half, tying the score at nine-all to force OT.

Both teams scored in the second overtime period, including the tying goal by Calvin with just 17 seconds left. O'Hara tallied her sixth goal of the game just 49 seconds into the fourth overtime period. The Mount got goals from six different players in the game, while O'Hara also added an assist to her point totals. Paige Apel (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) played the entire game in net for the Mount, making nine saves.
