Visiting Bluffton University scored early and often on Saturday afternoon, and got a strong pitching performance in both games, as the Beavers swept the Lions, 7-1, and 9-0 in HCAC doubleheader action. The Mount and Bluffon are scheduled to complete the three-game series on April 14 at Marge Schott Stadium.
The first game saw Bluffton race out to a 3-0 lead after three innings, and tack on four more runs over the next three innings against Mount starter Brandon Polking (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier), who took the loss. The Lions were held to three singles in the game, and got an RBI single from Cole Wendeln (Florence, KY/Boone County). Polking pitched eight innings in the game, allowing just three earned runs, and was relieved by Mitch Morgan (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest), who tossed an inning of scoreless relief.
The Lions were blanked on five hits in the second game, as Kyle Vennemeier (Harrison, OH/Harrison) was the only Mount player to connect for more than just a single. The Beavers led by a 6-0 score after two innings, after a four-run first inning. They finished with 15 hits as Collin Shaw (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) took the loss. Morgan finished the nighcap, throwing three innings.
