Lions' baseball team gives up late runs and falls at Franklin College, 5-3

Box Score

The Mount held a 3-1 lead after their at-bat in the seventh inning, only to surrender four late runs and lost at Franklin College, 5-3. The Mount, 6-20 overall, 2-12 in the HCAC, will resume their three-game weekend series with the Grizzlies on April 20 when they play a doubleheader.

The Lions grabbed a 3-1 lead in the seventh inning, thanks to an sacrifice fly by Taylor Simpson (Monroe, OH/Monroe), scoring Spencer Gommel (Greensburg, IN/Oldenburg Academy). The Grizzlies, however, bounced back in the bottom of the seventh, clouting a two-run home run, knotting the score at three-all. Franklin would add two more runs in the eighth inning, for the final margin, as the Lions ended the game hitting into a double play.

Gommel, Zak Wagner (Cincinnati, OH/Roger Bacon), and Ben Seeger (Reading, OH/Reading) each had two hits, as the Mount out-hit Franklin, 10-5. Both of Wagner's hits were doubles. Chase Stevens (Harrison, OH/Harrison) started on the mound for the Lions, pitching 6 2/3 innings, and allowing two earned runs while striking out five. Chris Bruckman (Huber Heights, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) suffered the loss in relief.
