Lions' baseball team drops extra inning match-up at home to Transylvania University, 10-8

Box Score

Visiting Transylvania University scored the go-ahead run in the 10th inning on a throwing error, and added an insurance run on an RBI double, as they came-from-behind to defeat the Mount, 10-8 on Tuesday evening. The Lions, 7-22 overall, 3-14 in the HCAC, will be back in action on April 26 when they host Anderson University in a doubleheader to begin a three-game home HCAC series with the Ravens.

The Lions scored early and often against the Pioneers in the game, bolting out to a 6-3 lead by the end of the fourth inning. The Mount then added two more runs the next inning, to make the score 8-3 and seemed in control of the game, after an RBI single by Taylor Simpson (Monroe, OH/Monroe) gave them a five-run advantage. Transylvania University would knot the score at eight-all in the seventh inning, with a five-run rally. Neither team would score in the eighth or ninth inning forcing extra innings. Transy would plate the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th, thanks to a Mount throwing error, and then make the score 10-8 with an RBI double. The Lions would end the game being retired in order in the bottom of the 10th.

The Mount recorded 15 hits in the game, as Jonathan Roberts (Hebron, KY/Conner), Spencer Gommel (Greensburg, IN/Oldenburg Academy), Taylor Alley (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills), and Drew Werner (Sunman, IN/East Central) each had three hits. Roberts added a home run, while Alley chipped in three RBI. Chris Bruckman (Huber Heights, OJ/Chaminade-Julienne), the Lions third pitcher in the game, suffered the loss.
