Box Score
Zak Wagner (Cincinnati, OH/Roger Bacon) had three hits, and three teammates had two hits each, as the Lions rolled to their second straight HCAC win, posting a 6-4 win at Defiance College on Friday afternoon. The Mount, 6-13 overall, and 25 in the conference, will resume action on April 6 with a doubleheader against the Yellow Jackets.
The host Yellow Jackets grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and held that advantage until the fourth inning, when the Mount scored two times in back-to-back innings to take a 4-1 advantage. Defiance would cut the deficit to 4-3 against Mount starter Chase Stevens (Harrison, OH/Harrison), but RBI doubles in the eighth inning by both Taylor Simpson (Monroe, OH/Monroe) and Jonathan Roberts (Hebron, Ky/Hebron), built the Lions lead to 6-4. Defiance added an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth inning, before Chris Bruckman (Huber Heights, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) closed the door with a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his first save of the season. Stevens pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing nine hits and three earned runs, while striking out four for his first win in 2013.
The Mount pounded out 13 hits in the game, led by Wagner, while Simpson, Roberts and Ben Seeger (Reading, OH/Reading) each had two hits.
