The Mount scored four second half goals, breaking open a close game on Saturday, and went on to defeat visiting Aurora University, 9-6. The Lions, winners of three straight, improve to 5-2 on the season, and 2-1 in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference. The Mount is currently in third place in the MWLC, and will be back in action on April 7 when they host conference-rival Carthage College.
The Spartans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the game, before the Mount's Samantha Hughes (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) got her team on the scoreboard with a with 23:35 showing on the first half clock. Aurora would tally the game's next goal, to push their lead to 3-1 but the Mount's Nicole Sifri (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) and Chrissy O'Hara (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) scored goals to cut the deficit to 4-3. Aurora would scored two of the game's next three goals in the first half, as the teams entered halftime knotted at five-all.
The Lions would come out strong in the second half, scoring three unanswered goals, including scores by Hughes and O'Hara, as they forged an 8-5 lead with 20 minutes left in the game. Hughes would add her fourth score of the game, with just under six minutes remaining, to close the scoring. Sifri finished with three goals while O'Hara, the team's leading scorer this season, had two goals and an assist. Erica Walsh (Louisville, KY/Sacred Heart) chipped in an assist. Mount goalie Paige Apel (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) recorded 14 saves in the game.
Aurora held a 28-23 lead in shots, including 20-17 in shots on goal.
