Lions' baseball team drops Manchester University series opener, 6-2

HCAC-leader Manchester College plated two runs in the second inning and added three more runs in third inning today; jumping out to a 6-0 lead after four innings, en route to their 30th win of the season, in a 6-2 home decision over the Mount. The Lions, 8-26 overall, 4-17 in the conference, concludes 2013 season play with a May 4 doubleheader at Manchester.

The Lions ended the Spartans shutout bid in the fifth inning when Taylor Alley (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) scored an unearned run. Alley had singled to lead off the inning. Spencer Gommel (Greensburg, IN/Oldenburg Academy) connected for a solo home run in the eighth ininng to end the scoring in the game. Chase Stevens (Harrison, OH/Harrison) pitched a complete game for the Mount, allowing five hits, and five earned runs, while walking two batters; and posting four strikeouts. The Lions had six hits in the game, including a double by Ben Seeger (Reading, OH/Reading). The Mount left nine runners on base.
