Box Score
Penn State-Abington recorded a two-out, run scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning on Wednesday evening, plating the winning run in a 7-6 win over the Mount. The Lions, 2-3-1 this season, returns to the diamond on Mar. 13 when they take on SUNY Canton in Florida Spring Break play.
The Mount scored runs in each of their first three innings against Penn St-Abington, and held a 3-2 lead after three. They added two that advantage in the fifth inning, scoring twice, with both runs scoring on an RBI single by Jack Meininger (Cincinnati, OH/Summit Country Day). Penn St-Abington would cut that deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the frame, with the run coming on a wild pitch. The Mount, however, holding a 6-3 lead in the eighth inning, would allow their opponent to tie the score at six-all in the bottom of the eighth. The Lions would have the potential go-ahead run put out at home plate in the top of the ninth, setting the state of Penn St-Abington's come-from-behind win, their second victory of the season in seven games.
Michael Leytze (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) and Taylor Alley (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) led the Mount's nine-hit attack with two hits each while Meininger had three RBI. Tyler Haubner (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) chipped in three walks. Alex Cole (Ross, OH/Ross) started for the Lions, pitching five innings, allowing two earned runs and recording four strikeouts. He was relieved by Nathan Lambert (Lawrenceburg, IN/Lawrenceburg) and Drew Ernst (Cincinnati, OH/Elder), who took the loss.
