Host Beloit College broke open a close game late in the second half on Saturday afternoon, and went on to down the Lions, 17-14 in a Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference match-up. The Lions, 1-3 on the season, 0-2 in the MWLC, returns to action on Mar. 16 when they play at conference-foe Benedictine University.
The Buccanneers grabbed a 2-0 lead and with the score tied at 2-all, ran off five straight goals by the 8:50 mark of the first half to hold a 7-2 advantage over the Mount. The Lions rebounded, however, to post the last three goals before halftime, cutting the deficit to 9-8. Beloit had leads of 10-8 and 11-9 in the second half, while Holly Hubble (Cincinnati, OH/Loveland) scored with 23:16 on the clock to tie the game at 11-all. After ties of 12-all and 13-all, Beloit posted three straight goals over a 2:05 span to take a 16-13 lead. Nicole Sifri (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) scored a goal with just over 2 1/2 minutes left in the game to pull the Mount to within a 16-14 score but the Lions would not get any closer. Beloit added the final goal of the game with just nine seconds to play.
Chrissy O'Hara (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) led the Mount with four goals and one assists while Samantha Hughes (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) and teammate Erica Walsh (Louisville, KY/Sacred Heart) had three goals each. Sami Ives (Erlanger, KY/St. Henry) had eight saves in goal for the Lions. Beloit out-shot the Mount, 33-24, including 25-20 in shots on goal.
