Visiting Franklin College broke open a scoreless game in the fourth inning with an eight-run scoring frame, en route to a 9-0 win on Friday evening over the Lions. The Mount, 4-7-1 overall, 0-1 in the HCAC, will resume their weekend series against the Grizzlies at UC's Marge Schott Stadium on Mar. 22 at noon.
With the two teams locked in a scoreless tie heading into the fourth inning, the Grizzlies plated eight runs on five hits, and took advantage of a Mount error to break the game open. Franklin would add their final run in the sixth inning, on a home run, as they held the Mount to five singles and a double.
Franklin had 10 hits in the game, while the Lions left 12 runners on base and went one-for-nine with runners in scoring position. Kyle Vennemeier (Harrison, OH/Harrison) connected for a double for the Mount. Lions' starter Alex Cole (Ross, OH/Ross) started for the Mount and tossed four innings, suffering the loss. He was followed to the mount by Nathan Lambert (Lawrenceburg, IN/Lawrenceburg), who threw four innings, and Rob Shaw (West Chester, OH/Lakota West). Franklin improved to 10-4 on the season, 1-0 in the HCAC.
