Visiting Aurora University broke open a close game in the second quarter, scoring six straight goals and went on to a 12-3 win over the Mount on Schueler Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Mount, 1-9 overall, 0-4 in the MLC, returns to action on Apr. 2 when they host Wittenberg University.
Aurora posted a 1-0 lead in the game against the Lions, before the Mount's Andrew Stoffer (Palatine, IL/Palatine) tied the score at one-all. The Spartans then scored the game's next two goals, two go up by two, but Ryan Gallagher (Chicago, IL/St. Rita)Â cut the deficit to 3-2 early in the second quarter. Aurora then went on a six-goal scoring spree, getting goals from five different players, down to the 12:49 mark of the third quarter to take a commanding 9-2 lead. Cory Wojciechowski (Las Vegas, NV/Community College East) scored the Mount's final goal of the game, at 11:22 of the fourth quarter, to make the score 9-4. Auroroa added three fourth quarter goals to close the scoring.
The Spartans out-shot the Mount, 42-22 in the game, including 25-10 in shots on goal. Mike Weil (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) had 13 saves for the Lions.
