Lions' women's lacrosse team drops MWLC game at Carthage College, 18-10

Box Score

Host Carthage College posted a 9-4 halftime lead and pushed their advantage out to 13-4 in the second half, before thwarting a Mount comeback attempt, as they collected an 18-10 victory on Saturday in Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference action. The Lions, 0-2 on the season, 0-1 in the MWLC, will be back in action on Mar. 12 when they host their season opener against Wilmington College.

The Lions started the scoring in the game, with just five minutes having expired when Samantha Hughes (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) tallied a goal. Chrissy O'Hara (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) would score a goal at 21:30 of the first half to knot the score at 2-all, but Carthage would respond with five unanswered goals to take a 7-2 lead. Hughes, and then Erica Walsh (Louisville, KY/Sacred Heart) would score the game's next two goals, as the Lions pulled to within 7-4, but Carthage would go on a six-goal scoring spree to lead 13-4 into the second half.

The Mount, however, would answer that with a four-goal scoring outburst of their own, with Walsh scoring the last two goals of that spree, cutting the Carthage advantage to, 13-8. The Lions would get no closer, however.

Carthage out-shot the Lions, 31-24 in the game, including 24-19 in shots on goal. Hughes led the offense with four goals while Walsh totaled three goals. Hughes also added two assists. Sami Ives (Erlanger, KY/St. Henry) had six saves for the Mount.
