The Lions' baseball team scored a season-high 14 runs, connecting on 16 hits and taking advantage of six Bluffton errors, as they posted a 14-9 win on Friday afternoon against the Beavers. The Mount, 12-19-1 overall, 7-13 in the HCAC, will resume their weekend series against Bluffton on April 26 with an away doubleheader.
In Friday's game, both teams scored early and often, with the Mount producing a 5-4 lead after just one inning of action. The Lions went ahead 6-5 after two innings. With the game knotted at seven-all, Bluffton tallied two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to grab a 9-7 advantage. A six-run, eight inning, thanks to five Mount hits and a BU error, gave the Lions a commanding 13-9 lead. The Lions would add a final run in the ninth inning, as they claimed a 14-9 win.
Chase Stevens (Harrison, OH/Harrison) posted the win in relief, tossing six innings, while allowing two runs and striking out five batters. He improved to 4-5 on the season. Nick Browning (Fairfield, OH/Hamilton Badin) and Matt Hofmann (Cincinnati, OH/Elder)Â each had four hits, with Hoffman collecting three doubles. Michael Gill (Burlington, Ky/Conner), Drew Werner (Sunman, IN/East Central) and Casey Wagner (West Harrison, IN/Franklin County) each had two hits while teammate Ronald Cotton (Florence, KY/Boone County) had a three-run home run. Wagner and Browning each had three runs scored.
