HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams came out of the gates a little sluggish. The Lions' committed 10 turnovers in the first quarter alone. Mount St. Joseph was able to overcome the turnovers by getting to the free-throw line 10 times in the first quarter, which is where 6 of the Lions 10 first half points were scored. The defense held the Fighting Scots' in check, holding them to 5 of 21 (23.8 percent) shooting. The quarter ended with the score knotted at 10.

With just under 3 minutes to play in the second quarter and the Lions, trailing by 2, began to turn up the pressure, causing three consecutive turnovers. MSJ continued to get to the free-throw line in the second quarter. Both teams continued to struggle from the field, with each team holding the other to under 30 percent shooting in the first half. The first half ended with the Lions leading by a score of 22-21.

The second half started much better for the Lions as they scored 7 quick points with two baskets by Ciera Phillips and a big 3 by Brilyn Webb. Fouls were being called early and often in the 3rd as both teams were in the bonus before the 5-minute mark.

The fourth quarter began with the Lions' trailing by a score of 46-42. The Lions' tied the game at 46 all with a layup by Lainee Studer coming at the 8:01 mark of the 4th. Then Meredith Hartfiel followed with a 3-pointer to take the lead. The game remained tight the rest of the way with neither team leading by more than 3 points. The Lions' took the lead with 5.6 seconds left on the clock on an offensive rebound and putback by Studer.

They survived a last second shot by the Scots that bounced off the back rim.

STANDOUTS
Studer led the way with a double-double, dropping in 15 points and grabbing 12 boards.
