Mount men's lacrosse team drops season opener at Capital University

The Mount St. Joseph University men’s lacrosse team began its 2015 campaign today with a non-conference game at Capital University, falling by an 8-3 score. The Lions, 0-1 on the season, return to action on March 7 when they host Thiel College in their opening game of the Ohio River Lacrosse Conference season.

The host Crusaders out-shot the Lions 14-4 in the first two periods, jumping out to a 4-1 lead by intermission.

Drew Stoffer (Palatine, IL/Palatine) scored a goal at 6:38 of the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 4-2, but Capital would reply with four unanswered goals, pushing their advantage to 8-2 with 3:41 left in the game. John Ewing (LaPorte, IN/LaPorte) added a late fourth quarter goal for the Mount, off a pass from Tyler Lindholz (Springboro, OH/Springboro), for the final score of 8-3.

Pat McClanahan (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira) scored the team’s first goal of the season just into the second quarter.

Capital recorded a 40-14 advantage in shots. Mike Weil (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Mount and made 21 saves.
