Box Score
Visiting Hanover College scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings on Sunday afternoon, and they held on to post a 5-3 win over the Mount, taking two out of three games during the weekend HCAC series. The Mount, 6-6 overall, 1-2 in the conference, returns to action on March 24 when they play a single, nine-inning game at home (Xavier Univ.) against conference-opponent Earlham College.
After a 1-all tie heading into the fifth inning, Hanover forged ahead 3-1 thanks to RBI singles off Mount starter Matt Hofmann (Cincinnati, OH/Elder). The Lions would cut the deficit to 4-2 in the sixth inning on an RBI groundout, but would get no closer. The Panthers tacked on a final run, scoring an unearned run in the seventh inning. Drew Werner (Sunman, IN/East Central) added a sacrifice fly RBI in the eighth inning to close the scoring in the game.
Ronald Cotton (Florence, KY/Boone County) collected three of the Lions' six hits against Hanover, while Werner chipped in two RBI. Hofmann suffered the loss, tossing six innings, dropping to 1-1 on the season. The Mount went zero-for-four with runners in scoring position, and left six runners on base.
