Lions' women's lacrosse team edged on road by Aurora, 13-12

In a close battle throughout on Saturday afternoon at Aurora University, the Lions allowed four straight second half goals to allow the home team Spartans to get out to an 11-8 lead as they held off a late Mount charge to win, 13-12. The Lions slip to 5-7 with the loss and will be back in action on April 15 at Wilmington College.

The Lions got off to a 3-2 start on Saturday against Aurora, getting goals from three different players, and led by a 7-6 margin at the intermission, despite being out-shot over the first 30 minutes of play, 19-14. Nicole Sifri (Cincinnati,OH/McAuley) and Erica Walsh (Louisville, KY/Sacred Heart) led the Mount's first half offensive charge with two goals each.

Aurora tield the game at 7-all early in the second half before the Mount's Sifri scored off a pass from Madie Long (Columbus, OH/Hilliard Davidson) to put her team back in front, 8-7 with 26:42 on the second half clock. Aurora would then score four unanswered goals, to go up, 11-8, with 16:36 to play in the game. Sifri and Long would add late second half goals, with the latter goal cutting the deficit to 12-10, but the Lions could not get the lead, despite tallying the last two goals in the game.

Sifri led the offense with five goals scored while Long and Walsh added two goals each. Long also had two assists. Katherine Mapes (Cincinnat, OH/Cincinnati Country Day) had eight saves for the Mount in goal. The Spartans had an 29-26 advantage in shots, and 21-20 in shots on goal.
