Box Score
After taking game one of the weekend series against HCAC-foe Anderson University on Saturday afternoon, 10-8, the Lions saw their offense stifled in the final two games of the series, losing the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, 5-3, and Sunday's finale, 15-3 in seven innings. The Mount, 10-14 overall, 5-9 in the conference, will be back in action on April 14 when they host Earlham College in an HCAC-matchup. Anderson goes to 17-8, 9-5 on the season, tied for second place in the HCAC.
The Lions fell behind by a 2-0 score early in game one, but more than made up for that when they tied the game at 2-all in the third inning and grabbed a 9-5 lead in the fifth inning. Nathan Lambert (Lawrenceburg, IN/Lawrenceburg) started and posted the win, his second of the season, tossing six innings. Zach Farmer (Hamilton, OH/Lakota West) closed the game for the Mount, picking up his second save of the season. Mike Williams (Cincinnati, OH/Taft) and teammate Nick Boardman (Cincinati, OH/La Salle) led the offense with two hits each. Anderson stranded 16 runners on base in the game, against four Mount pitchers.
The Ravens scored the first runs of the game in the second game of the series, plating two runs in their half of the first inning. The Lions, however, would knot the score at 2-all in the sixth inning, when Boardman had an RBI single. Both teams would score a run in their half of the seventh, making the game a 3-all tie, before Anderson pushed across single runs in the eighth and ninth innings while holding the Lions scoreless over that span. The Mount pounded out 12 hits in the second game, with Cory Reimer (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton Badin), Ryan McCauley (Canal Winchester, OH/Madison Christian) and Boardman each collecting two hits. Brandon Polking (Cincinnati, OH/St. Xavier) started on the mound for the Lions and pitched well, despite suffering the loss.
Kyle Kittle (Lawrenceburg, IN/Lawrenceburg) ripped a two-run double in the second inning of game three, on Sunday, giving his team a 2-1 lead, but Anderson would score 14 runs over the fourth through sixth inning to take a commanding lead and end the game early due to the run-rule. Matt Hofmann (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) absorbed the pitching loss, going to 2-3 on the season. The Lions were limited to four hits in the game, while Anderson recorded 16 hits on three Mount pitchers. Drew Werner (Sunman, IN/East Central) blasted a solo home run in the sixth inning, his second of the season.
