Mount men's lacrosse holds off late challenge for a 9-8 win at Bethany (WV) College

Mount St. Joseph Lions took on conference rival Bethany College where they pulled out a close victory by a score of 9-8. The Lions bettered their record to 4-8 overall and 2-2 in the ORLC, with Bethany dropping to 4-10. Mike Weil (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) played the full 60 minutes in goal where he recorded 14 saves.

Bethany and the Mount traded goals back and forth throughout the game, keeping the score close. The Lions outshot Bethany 46-33, with Pat McClanahan (Cincinnati, OH/Madeira) and Andrew Stoffer (Palatine, IL/Palatine) leading the Mount in scoring with three goals apiece. McClanahan finished an assist and recovered two ground balls in the process. Stoffer also finished with an assist and five ground balls recovered.

The game was tied 5-5 with 2:35 left in third quarter when a Stoffer goal gave the Lions the lead. After this, Tyler Lindholz (Springboro, OH/Springboro) scored a goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter giving the Lions a two goal lead, and the biggest deficit of the game. McClanahan followed with the eighth Mount goal of the game and giving them a three goal lead, eventually securing their victory. The Lions had a one goal lead with 3:23 minutes left in the game where they held off Bethany, and winning the game.

Next game for the Lions is on Wednesday, April 22 at Transylvania University.
