Lions' women's lacrosse team captures 14-4 win over Hanover on Senior Day

It was Senior Day today at the Mount where the Lions took on Hanover College and beat them by a score of 14-4. Seniors Nicole Sifri (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) and Faith Koehne Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) were honored today by all their friends, family, and teammates. Sifri finished with an impressive five goals from her 11 total shots. Koehne unfortunately has been sidelined due to some injuries this season, but was a top defender for the Lions in the previous years.

The Hanover Panthers took an early lead, scoring a goal right away in the early minutes. Jenna Roberts (Wooster, OH/Wooster) quickly answered with a goal to tie the game up at 1-1. Erica Walsh (Louisville, KY/Sacred Heart) followed scoring a goal to give the Lions a lead with the Panthers scoring right after. After a Sifri goal to give the Lions a 3-2 lead, Walsh hit a milestone, scoring a goal for the Mount and marking her name as being the program’s player to reach 100 goals in the quickest amount of time for Mount St. Joseph University women’s lacrosse. Walsh finished the day with four total goals while recovering two ground balls.

After the 2-2 tie at the beginning of the first half, the Lions ran away with the lead, going on a nine goal run and taking an 1-2 lead which they kept till the five minutes in too the second half. The Lions had a successful Senior Day, outshooting the Panthers 29-17 and recovering 22 ground balls.Mount St. Joseph bettered their record to 7-7 overall and 5-3 in the conference. The final game for the Mount will be played tomorrow, Sunday, at noon at Schueler Field against St. Vincent College for the Lions final game of the season.
