Host Ohio Northern University, the 23rd-ranked baseball team in the nation, jumped out to an 8-1 lead after three innings on Wednesday afternoon, and went on to their 15th win in 18 games this season, with a 17-9 victory over the Mount.
The Lions 7-11 overall, 2-6 in the HCAC, are scheduled to begin a home, three-game series against Bluffton University on April 3.
The Mount cut the deficit against the Polar Bears to 9-5 in the fifth inning, when they scored four runs, but could get no closer. They also recorded a four-run inning - in the ninth. Nick Browning (Fairfield, OH/Hamilton Badin) had a two-run double in the ninth inning.
Ronald Cotton (Florence, KY/Boone County) and Browning each had two hits for the Mount, while Browning added three RBI in the game.
ONU pounded out 16 hits and went eight-for-20 with runners in scoring position.
Nathan Hunter (Vevay, IN/Switzerland County) started for the Mount and pitched three innings, losing his first decision of the season. He was followed to the mound by three Lions' pitchers.
