host Transylvania University's first four hitters collected eight hits, in 13 at-bats, against three Lions' pitchers on Tuesday afternoon as the Pioneers posted a 10-4 win. The Mount drops to 10-19 overall, 5-14 in the HCAC with the loss, and is scheduled to resume 2015 season action on April 23 when they play at conference-rival Franklin College.
The Pioneers scored early and often in today's game, as they posted a four-run first inning and added another score in the second, to jump out to a 5-1 lead. Transylvania led by a 10-1 score heading into the eighth, when the Lions plated two runs, thanks to a two-run double by Drew Werner (Sunman, IN/East Central). The Mount added one more run in the ninth, on an RBI single by Corey Reimer (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton Badin). Transy tallied nine hits in the game, but took advantage of four Mount errors and six Lions' walks.
Nick Browning (Fairfield, OH/Hamilton Badin) and Reimer led the offense with two hits each, with each also collecting a double in the game. Mount started Jacob Gunnell (Hamilton, OH/Fairfield) suffered the loss, falling to 1-3 on the season. Paul Spaulding (Cincinnati OH/La Salle) and Casey Wagner (West Harrison, IN/Franklin County) also pitched for the Lions.
