Box Score
Visiting Transylvania University scored singles runs in the first and second innings, and added to a strong pitching performance, as they posted a 2-0 win over the Mount on Tuesday evening at Midland Field in Amelia, OH. The Lions fall to 12-21 overall, 7-16 in the HCAC and are scheduled to end the 2015 season this coming weekend when they begin a three-game series with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on May 2 with a doubleheader.
The Pioneers got an RBI single in the first inning, and a sacrifice fly in the second inning, to plate two runs off Mount starter Zach Farmer (Hamilton, OH/Lakota West). That would be all the visitors would muster again four Lions' pitchers on the night. Transylvania, however, would hold the Lions hitless until the seventh inning when Ronald Cotton (Florence, KY/Boone County) ripped a one-out single to to right-center field. He was erased, however, on a double play grounder. The Mount would go out in order both of the final two innings of the game, as Farmer, who pitched two innings, fell to 1-2 on the season. Paul Spaulding (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) pitched four innings, of three-hit scoreless relief.
Transy went two-for-12 with runners in scoring position, and stranded nine runners.
