Mount St. Joseph University pounded out 18 hits, including six extra-base hits on Monday afternoon, as they posted a 12-2 run-ruled win over Bluffton University at Midland Field. The Lions, winners of two of the three games over the first place Beavers this weekend, improved to 9-12 overall, 4-7 in the HCAC. The Mount returns to action on April 7 when they play at Transylvania University.
Cory Reimer (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton Badin) got the Lions' offense off the a fast start in the third inning when he blasted a solo home run. Bluffton tied the game at 1-all in the fourth inning, but the Mount would answer that with a five-run inning in the fifth, as five different players drove in runs. The Mount would add two more scoring innings, adding three runs to their total in both the sixth and seventh innings to win the game.
Lions' starter Matt Hofmann (Cincinnati, OH/Elder) pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits, two runs (one earned) while striking out two batters. He went to 2-2 on the season.
Kyle Kittle (Lawrenceburg, IN/Lawrenceburg) and Reimer helped lead the Mount's offense with three hits each, while Nick Boardman (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) and Ronald Cotton (Florence, KY/Boone County) had two hits each and three RBI. Mike Williams (Cincinnati, OH/Taft) had two doubles and a single, while scoring three runs. The Lions were nine-for-18 with runners in scoring position. The Mount had five, two-out RBI.
