Mount baseball team suffers season-ending loss to Rose-Hulman

The Lions ended their season on Sunday at home, falling to HCAC-rival Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, 7-3. The Mount completes the 2015 campaign with a 13-23 overall record, 8-18 in the conference. Rose-Hulman, which won two of three during the weekend series against the Lions, moves on to the HCAC Tournament with a 25-14 mark, 7-9 in the conference.

Both teams scored early and often in the game today, with Rose-Hulman grabbing a 4-2 lead after two innings of action. Nick Boardman (Cincinnati, OH/La Salle) drove in teammate Ronald Cotton (Florence, KY/Boone County) with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, to cut the deficit to 4-3, but the Fightin' Engineers would add single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to forge ahead, 6-3. The visitors would add one more run the rest of the way, while holding the Mount scoreless over the final six innings of game. Five Rose-Hulman pitchers saw action in the game, while the Lions used six pitchers. Starter Rick Paulinelli (Harrison, OH/Harrison) started and pitched two innings, taking the loss to even his season record to 3-3. The Lions had five hits in the game, with Cory Reimer (Hamilton, OH/Hamilton Badin) recording two hits, and adding two walks.

The Mount was one-for-seven with runners in scoring position and stranded eight runners on base. Rose-Hulman, which collected 14 hits in the game, was four-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 14 runners on base.
