Women's volleyball battles, falls short at Hiram event

The Mount women’s volleyball team (5-8) fell 3-0 to Hiram College (10-3) and took a tough loss 3-2 against Marietta College (5-5) at the Hiram Invitational on Saturday.

The Lions had a slow start in the first match, hitting a .088 with 28 kills and 19 errors. Junior Jessica Wilgenbusch (Sunman, Ind./East Central) led the team with seven kills, adding six digs. Hiram hit .267 in the match and had 47 digs. Wilgenbusch was named to the all-tournament team.

In the second match against Marietta the Lions’ put up a tough fight after dropping the first set. MSJ went on to win the second set 25-18 and the third set 25-22. Marietta battled back to win the fourth and force a deciding fifth set.

The Lions jumped out to a 6-2 lead in game five and led 10-9. Marietta scored the final three points of the match to put the Lions away.

Hannah Losey (Tipp City, OH/Tippecanoe) and Wilgenbusch led the team with 13 kills. Jadah Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) added five block assists.

The Lions travel to Berea College on Tuesday.
