Lions cruise to 2-0 win against Bluffton

Box Score

LOCATION: Schueler Field (Cincinnati, Ohio)

THE BASICS:

Mount St. Joseph (8-2-3) took to Schueler Field on Wednesday for a conference match-up and came away with a 2-0 victory, keeping them undefeated in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Mount St. Joseph defense was on display yet again on Wednesday night, as they did not yield a goal.  The Lions jumped out to an early lead in the 8th minute of play on a goal from Austin Masters, who was assisted on the play by Tyler Schumann.  The Lions would add to their lead when Caleb Smith found the back of the net off of a nifty pass by Seth Freppon just minutes before intermission.

The second half did not feature any more scoring from the side of the Lions.  However, they were able to register 10 shots in the second half, keeping constant pressure on the Blulffton defense.  The Lion defense continued to wipe away any hope of a comeback for Bluffton, playing hard-nosed defense and keeping the ball on the Bluffton half of the field.

STANDOUTS:

The Mount St. Joseph defense takes the standout award again.  Wednesday was the third time in the past four games that the Lion defense has shut out their opponents.  Each of those games were against conference opponents.  Through the first four games of HCAC play, the Lions have allowed only one goal, an outstanding achievement.

UP NEXT:

Mount St. Joseph will travel to Franklin on Saturday to battle against the Grizzlies in an attempt to stay unbeaten in HCAC play.  Kickoff is scheudled for 7:30 PM.
