Lions struggle against Bluffton in HCAC match up

LOCATION: Sommer Center (Bluffton, OH)

THE BASICS:

The Lions traveled to Bluffton to take on the Beavers in a HCAC battle.  The Beavers were able to come up with a win in three straight sets sending the Lions home early.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The day started off tough for the Lions in the first set. The Beavers were able to open up their lead early to take a 10-4 lead.  The Lions were able to fight back and scored five straight points to bring the lions within one point of tying the game.  After that the Beavers began to open up their lead again and finish the first set beating the Lions 25-19.

The Lions looked to take the second set to even the match up, but Bluffton would not let up.  Bluffton established a demanding lead at the start going up 12-6.  The Lions relentlessly continued to stay competitive with the help of Jessica Wilgenbusch decreasing the lead as the score was 18-17.  Bluffton was able to take the momentum after that and win the set 25-21.

During the third set Bluffton continued to control the match starting off with a 9-0 lead.  The Lions tried desperately to get back into the set but the lead was too much to overcome.  Bluffton was able to defeat the Lions in the third set 25-10 to give them the win in the match.

STANDOUTS:

Jessica Wilgenbusch led the Lions offense with 9 kills in the tough loss.  Lynsee Spatz led the team with 12 digs throughout the match giving the Lions hope on defense.

UP NEXT:

The team will travel to Bloomington Illinois this Friday 10/28 to compete in the Barker Chevrolet Volleyball Classic III against the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
