THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph (2-0) overcame some shaky defense, utilizing timely hitting to sweep the Mountaineers (0-2) to get the season underway.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
Berea jumped out to 5-1 lead through 3 innings, but a 6 run fifth inning would be the difference for the Lions. As they were able hold on down the stretch for the win.
Wyatt Myers got the start on the hill for the Lions, and went 3 innings. He surrendered 5 runs over 3 innings of work, only 2 of which were earned. The defense of the Lions let him down as they committed 3 errors during his time on the mound. Ryan McCauley stood out at the plate during the game going 2 for 4, driving in 2 runs and scoring a run himself.

Game 2
The game went 10 innings, with both teams scoring runs in the extra frame. The Lions scored 3 in the top of the 10th, and were able to hold on in the bottom as Berea scored 2. The Mount took advantage of 6 errors by the Mountaineers, scoring 4 unearned runs. Malik Zuberi pitched 1.2 innings of relief to come away with the win for the Lions. Zach Farmer went 2 for 6 at the dish driving in 2 runs, and scoring 2.
